Did you know?
- During the summer, rotate your fan counter clockwise to create a cool breeze when standing underneath it. During the winter, rotate your fan clockwise to produce a gentle updraft that moves the warm air down.
- Save some energy and still stay cool! If you increase you’re a/c temperature to 78 degrees and leave a ceiling fan on low it will create a cooling effect to make the room feel like it is 72 degrees.
- If every home replaced one light bulb with a CFL (compact fluorescent light), we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for 1 year, and prevent green house gases equivalent to the emissions of 800,000 cars.
- Only 10% of the energy consumed by an incandescent lamp produces light. The remaining 90% of the energy
is lost as heat.
- Lamps placed in a corner where the light can reflect off at least 2 walls provides the most light for your money.
- Cleaning light fixtures regularly removes dust build up and allows
for maximum output. Dirt can absorb up to 50%
of
the light emitted by a bulb.
- Use automatic lighting controls such as motion detectors and timers to control lights when needed (i.e. at night or
when you are away).
- One bulb is better than two. One 100 watt bulb produces more light and use less energy than two 60 watt bulbs.
- CFL’s (compact fluorescent lights) use about 75% less energy and heat than a standard incandescent light bulb, lasting 10 times longer and saving about $30 or more in electricity costs over the lifetime of that bulb.
- When should you turn the lights off to save?
Standard Incandescent Light: When you leave for
even 3 seconds.
Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL): When you leave
for more than 3 minutes.
Standard Fluorescent Light: When you leave for
more than 15 minutes.
