Tips / FAQs

  1. How do I know if it's oil or latex painted on the wall?
All you need to do is take some acetone free nail polish remover, apply to a pad and rub it on the wall. If the paint comes off – it's latex, and if it polishes the wall – it's oil. Make sure you clean the area first so that you don't mistake dirt for paint!

  2. How do I switch from latex to oil?
Very easily! You can either use oil primer or our best latex, all purpose primer – C2 ONE. Once you've primed, you can paint with any of our latex paints. Make sure you do all the proper preparation before painting!

  3. My paint keeps going on streaky?
Take a look at the roller you're using. Some people think that a lower pile roller is better, but you actually want to use a 10mm or 15mm roller. You also want to make sure there is always paint on the roller. Don't try to extend the paint farther than it will go.

  4. Do I have to prime?
Well, that all depends. If your walls are stained, or your switching from oil to latex, and sometimes if you're changing from a deep rich colour to a light colour, you should prime. If you're painting over latex with another latex, all you really need to do is clean and lightly sandy the surface.

  5. What sheen should I use on my bathroom walls?
A pearl or semi-gloss finish is always best on bathroom walls. It will protect better against high humidity and it a durable finish.

  6. Can I get away with doing one coat?
Two coats are always recommended. The first coat will sometimes cover and look good, but with a second coat you have a much nicer looking and complete wall. Two coats will end up lasting longer and give you the true colour you're looking for.

  7. How many gallons will I need to finish my room?
Premium paint usually covers around 450 square feet per gallon (depending on colour). Check out our paint calculator to see how much paint you will need!

  8. What finish should I use on my trim?
A semi-gloss is the most common finish. However, a pearl or satin finish is fine for people who don't want the higher sheen.
